Apparently  from what I have been reading on the Supra forum there is a sales stoppage until they can figure out how many need to be recalled.  Also there are some that are qualifying for buy backs.   This is a very bad start for any car to have two major safety recalls upon its introduction.
Who knows what else is coming down the road but it certainly doesn’t look good but completely normal for a BMW.

The best standards and processes will still fail if people do not follow them.

By the same token, poor standards and processes will fail, regardless of how well they are observed.

These issues fall under the first category, undoubtedly. Without reliable information, we do not know why. My favorite guess is a scenario similar to that other big German who has been knee deep in scandal recently. It is probably not fair to blame the workers or their level of pride. Culture makes or breaks companies.

That goes without saying and even Toyota is having their own issues right now with their CVT recall however BMW is well known for this kind of stuff and although recalls can be addressed it reflects poorly on the manufacture from a journalist industry perspective that is flat out embarrassing especially when others predicted it. Usually this follows a pattern that will unveil its self further once miles are accumulated simply because the car is so sophisticated that it will be hard to diagnose and fix.  On some BMWs there is no fix or the fix is so extensive that the labor just kills it especially once it comes out of warranty and almost half or more of the resale value.
One of the reasons for the buy back is because it’s meeting the lemon laws of that state because Toyota is having a hard time repairing something as simple as a headlight malfunction that is taking months because the body modules are not playing nice.  It’s  probable that Supras will be sent to the  BMW dealership for repair instead of Toyota.
