Water Pump

Don't know if these are real ac delco or not but I think I'd give it a try for the difference in price .

I check Rock Auto because I can look at the variety of items offered and the preferred (heart). The descriptions can provide insight.  A little trick is if you go to the site,  navigate your way to your vehicle next to the engine type, hit the RSS feed and then on the right side “do you like a deal” hit the HTML tab and you can see if there are any deals. Does anyone have a preference for a sealer for the water pump gasket? Thanks, I have only replaced pumps that use an o - ring and have no experience.

@desertwanderer Loctite or Permatex Ultra-Grey, or Ultra Black.  Either will work fine.

Permatex also makes a couple of quick set compounds in ultra black, if you don't feel like waiting a full 24-48hours before completing the job and returning the vehicle to service. I believe they make a 1 minute (be sure you are ready to snap everything together) and a "90 minute" which I believe actually takes about 2.5hrs to complete the job.

I keep both around and they're great. 1 minute set for things I can pop on quickly and immediately return to service... Bought the 90 minute stuff for my crank scraper install. I was able to install scraper to block, and pan to scraper, and return the vehicle to operating all in a single day. Would've been a 3 day job with the 24hr cure stuff... Even longer if you include the oil pickup tube spacers. Maybe 4-5 days!

@desertwandererBy the way, the "Ultra" sealants are new technology compared to the old Silicone RTV's that have a distinct Ammonia smell.  These new ones are very oil resistant.  The old formulation was not, and was totally attacked by gasoline.

On the sealers, anymore I spring for the ones in the can that you can just bend the nozzle and it comes out.  It's a lot cleaner and you can cut the nozzle and control how much you bend the nozzle to determine the bead size.  Pretty much like the old cheese whiz cans.

@nocoolname I will look for this feature. I have not seen it. Cheese Whiz does, however, revive some memories! Cool!

Does anyone feel that there is a particular procedure that should be observed when putting the adhesive on the pump? I know everything clean but some say only between the gasket and the pump and not between the gasket and the block, some say otherwise. Any thoughts or does it matter?
