Water Pump Replace?

Hello. My Spyder is in great shape, 80,000 mile 2005 model. My alternator died and when I finally removed it (more fun than repeatedly hitting your big toe with a hammer!), I realized my water pump (no issues apparent) is fully exposed. I bought one (new from Toyota) but what do you think? Should I replace it as a preemptive maintenance strike? Your thoughts appreciated.

What do you mean by this? The only thing that should be visible is the pulley.

@galo Yes. I do not like "installing by touch" so the tensioner and motor mount (both engine mount and the mount itself) have been removed.

Mine started to weep after 140k miles, and apparently internally leaked to the point where an oil analysis showed coolant in the oil. Replaced the water pump and the oil went back to having no coolant in it.

You're right, at that stage it's a dead simple replacement. I would do it! The seals are likely aged.

Galo & I did mine years ago. Easier than an alternator as I surmise.  Tiny thing the one on my old suburban was huge! Galo and I had a broom handle wedged in the fan trying to loosen the retaining bolt - good times in our younger days

@t-bone Working with a friend would be great! My being a social reject does put a damper on such activities, however. I do not lack for friends but their lack of opposable thumbs makes them helping out a bit iffy. I did raise a dozen possum babies and they do have opposable thumbs but they seem to lack the desire to help!

Who said we were friends... 😉 😉 😀 😀

Yes, T and I have done a few maintenance jobs on various cars...those were fun and I miss the interaction...and we never touched one drop of booze while doing the work... 😮
