Noises

After letting someone drive my car (never again), it started making noises. It sounds like a grinding/screeching noise. At first it was soft and infrequent/random leading me to think maybe disk brake or wheel bearing. Now it's louder and happens upon start and shifting. There's a loud almost pop/screech when I first start the car and release the clutch. During shifting, it appears to only happen in low gears. I am taking it to my mechanic next week but figured I ask all you knowledgeable people here first.

I recently replaced the header but I don't think leaking gasket or loose down pipe would make screeching sounds?

Edit: I should mention said person drove it very aggressively. To the point where he said it felt unsafe.

58k and I don't drive it hard like you do =P

Edit: it started making the noises after said person drove it, not prior.

So maybe it is the header and that explains starting but why only during shifts?

Edit: the thing is before replacement, my gasket was leaking and it sounded completely different. Also, it's a screeching/grinding sound similar to metal rubbing against each other.

Throw-out bearing...

Is that similar to a wheel bearing?

I am said person. I did not do anything to the car. I did not drive anywhere near the limits as I don't to that on public roads because its dangerous and as a matter of fact I held back because this cars suspension being blown out, alignment was off, brakes have air in them and it  felt down right dangerous. I did make this point to the owner immediately after moving the car side to side.

I explained that it was the sound coming from the slight exhaust manifold leak but he wasn't buying it and said I messed up his wheel bearings.

This is the last time I plan to work on anyones car except for the other locals that I already know. This is the second time I had a very unusual experience.

I advised this guy that its better to get all other work done by a pro so he can asses blame for paid work.

Before I was blamed for this I wanted to badly bleed his brakes because its down right dangerous but Im happy that this situation happened now otherwise I would get into some serious trouble if something were to happen.   Either way I learned a lesson in all of this.

I told you I am not mad at you nor would I dwell on it. I am moving forward to address the problem.

Well I don't feel the same way.   You made some baseless unfounded accusations and assumptions that are not grounded.  My car is the same age is your car and has nearly  triple  the miles on it.  I have driven Spyders that were in rough shape with over 200k on the clock without damaging anything afterwards.  I have never damaged anyones car intentionally or unintentionally, thats just not what I do and if your car cant handle a drive and have to nurse it everywhere you go in fear of something breaking then you have bigger issues to worry about from a car that has very low miles on it.   It's not a bad car and I wish you well but  it needs to be fixed for safety and if there is anyone to blame for this, its the previous owner and the Maryland state inspector.

I don't care because I have nothing to hide.  I will defend my honor even if my name is not mentioned because I stand behind what I do.

Two cents:   I think it’s safe to say, you can’t wear out wheel bearings by driving aggressively once, or twice, or a dozen times.   They might wear out .001% sooner if you tracked the car for a few months.

I make Amateur Armrests - see the Commercial Forum. I also have SMT repair seals available.

No one attacked your honor. No one mentioned your name. It's all in your head. I can't change how you feel/think Dev. Well, thanks for killing this thread. I am done here.

No, its the bearing that pushes against the pressure plate fingers when you push in the clutch.
