Okay . . . This is not and MR2 Kit car, but it was a kit car I put together in the late 70's.  This, my friends, is an Invader GT5B designed by Bruce Weeks.  This was one of those kits that was advertised in the likes of Popular Science and takes only 40 hours to transform a VW bug into an exotic sports car -- at least that is what the ad said.  When I was purchased the kit, Bruce Weeks told me that everything I needed was in the kit.  A few weeks later when I asked where was the fuse block, he reported that didn't come with the kit.  When I quoted him saying everything I needed came in the kit, he replied, "shoot, I'd tell you dancing girls came with the kit if that meant a sale."  Lesson learned.  Actually, many lessons learned through this project.  Anyway, here is a picture of a picture in a collage group of photos.  Yes, that's me in my younger days. If I recall correctly it was something like 34 inches from the ground to the top of the car.  🙂

I have never built a kit car, but it looks like a lot of work, and from the link I posted, a lot of $'s.

It also looks like your's was an interesting and unique project too.  😎

Oh, yes.  It took a few years to build -- not 40 hours and by the time it was done I probably had about 8k invested in it -- mostly becasue one of the major lesson's I learned is that I am not mechanically minded.  I am grateful I learned that on this project because I was flying single engine general aviation aircraft at the time and there were several "kit airplanes" out at that time.  Being young and ingnorant, I at one point thought I would build my own plane -- wouldn't that be fun!?  Yeah, right!  Even if I were able to pull that off, based on the mechanical knowledge I had at the time (and probably not much more skilled today) such a hand-made airplane would have killed me, I'm sure!

Yep!  I learned a lot of important lessons in life on that project.

I like the Exocet rebody for the Miata's. Much simpler.

Can't imagine the amount of time and money in one of those MR-2 rebody kits.
