Mid-Engine Corvette

I heard the CEO said starting under 60k. Holy hell is that a lot of mid engine performance for the money.

I think it might have a waiting list that will drive up prices like the Ford GT and the 90s SL.  

I like the side scoops how they are ripped from a myliobatiformes Mobuladae aka devil ray. Someone needs to stay out of my sketchbook.

I stayed up and watched the reveal. I could nitpick a few things that I do not like about the car but the price and the performance overrule any reservations about it. Chevrolet finally made a mid-engine Corvette and is still selling it cheap.This thing solidifies the Corvettes title as the best bang for the buck new sportscar on the planet.

 

And it has a lift off roof for those that like a convertible!

Please nitpick. I don’t want to like this car.

The interior is bad. That weird center console with the silly row of buttons. That HIDEOUS two spoke square steering wheel. Like, they tried their BEST to make the ugliest steering wheel of all time. I couldn't live with it. 

But the front end is stunning. Like a modernized 360 Modena. Amazing alleged performance, if GM can nail the handling aspect (it took them a while to do this on front engine Corvettes from what I hear). 

I'm glad they did it in my lifetime! Coulda, shoulda been done years ago.

I like the front and the rear but the side vents look like a badly made body kit.  

I feel like it should be our new captcha to log on here where you have to check the items that don't belong on the new Corvette. 

i like it... at first i thought, ferrari nose with a camaro rear because the exhaust tips aren't centered anymore... but i like it... i'm wondering how the 40/60 weight distribution will affect performance... the side vents i'd like to see in person since the vent makes it hard for me to visualize the depth of it... 

Call me doubtful that any roll off the lot anywhere near $60K.

 It will be the classic mid engine car advantage.  Better balance than 50/50.   It will also hook up nicely for those that like power off the line but will suck for those trying to fish tail the car.  

I really like the C8, but I'm leery of how durable the DCT from GM is.  I'm betting they'll have some problems in the first couple of years and maybe even a similar conflict as Nissan and the R35 trans issues.  Also word on the street is that easy tuning, i.e. HPTuners will be pretty well impossible.  Especially considering HPT just cracked the ZR1 C7 not long ago.  The engine packaging looks 'fun' to work on.  It does look like Chevrolet really paid attention to making it handle though, low CoG, finally going to a modern suspension, etc.  Although with the rear weight bias, I wonder how well the nanny systems will keep inexperienced drivers from ditching the car backwards, and how many will be taken off the road from those drivers.

It’s a tremec transmission... supposedly. That used to mean quality twenty years ago, not sure about today. My biggest turnoff in terms of powertrain performance is the pushrod engine. Reminds me of my old ford ranger which had an engine manufactured sixty years prior with revised heads and a new intake manifold.

Wasnt the biggest problem with dct the drivers who would redlight creep and sit on a slope without the brakes applied?

Interesting read comparing an exotica to an american muscle car.  No, the Pantera was not a Mustang, but close enough engine. I wonder what the eventual reviews will reveal about the new Corvette.
