Image Hosting

"How-To"s and instructional essays suffer when their illustrations are no longer available. I long ago suggested that SpyderChat host "How-To" (and similar) images "in-house", but my suggestions were ignored. Many formerly valuable posts on SpyderChat are now useless due to missing illustrations. Free picture hosting sites are unreliable: Images posted on them may disappear at any time.

I make the same suggestion here: MR2-Spyder.Com should host the images associated with "How-To" (and technical) articles.

Storage space aside, there are issues to be decided.
For one, only pictures pertaining to the topic of discussion should be hosted. What (besides ethics) would prevent me from posting pics of my house, my pool, my wife, my pony, my car, my grandkids, my favorite fruit, or anything else?
Clearly, there must be some review & decision about the images MR2-Spyder would host. Who will police the images? How will image policies be enforced?

There are many such issues.

Discuss!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but are we not able to paste images directly into our messages now?  Both here, and on adchat.

Just a member.

To the best of my understanding we do host imagines here natively.

We also allow positing images remotely from another site.

The difference is the resolution is lower when we host it here but its good enough for the purposes of write-ups.

In regards to abuse I think its fine if someone wants to post a picture of their dog or wife as I do not think we should run into any kind of limits that would clog up the system.

As far as abuse goes if pictures that are posted like those of gruesome death or flat out pornography the post will go invisible by a moderator and the poster will be asked to remove the images. If the  poster refuses or ignores then it is in violation of the rules and it will not appear. If the poster does this a second time out of defiance then the post will go invisible and the member will be banned.

In regards to someone abusing the system by using the image hosting as a depository I doubt that its ripe for abuse simple because the images are not the highest quality and generally no one does this especially on a car forum when there are many other sites that do it for free. If it becomes a problem LT or Patric can figure out who it is and take care of it on the back end.

The images posted on this forum are able to be either hosted at the poster's location via a supplied link.  or they can simply be uploaded to the server and hosted here so that they will remain forever.

Remember, as long as I'm alive, nothing will happen to the hosting of this site or its media.  And, in the event of my untimely exit from this world, there are others (or at least Pattilip) that have access to all of the files, data, and media to keep this going indefinitely.  The goal of this site is to have a place that will support the community and be provided by the community without the cheap quick sale corporate greed of the other sites.

So...  tl;dr.  Upload your images here and they will show up indefinitely.
