Turning down "The Wick" - Apexi FC

Here in the UK, like some states in the US, we have to pass quite strict emissions tests annually.

I have a 2ZZ with a 100cel CAT and frankly, I can't get it through without a friendly tester which is a 3 hour drive each way.
I need to come up with a better solution.

I have an Apexi FC, so I have some control over what the engine is doing.

Are there any suggestions on how I could get the car through an emissions test by perhaps turning the wick down? Something clever with the fuelling?

I'm happy to reload a tune once a year - it's not like it's difficult in our cars - I have the FC Hako cable.

What is it failing?  I used to "know a guy" with an old 280Z that failed CO emissions (HC was fine).  He would add Isopropyl alcohol to the tank prior to testing for emissions.  It would help, but may have had some negative impact on fuel lines, pump, etc.  Since he only had to do it once a year - didn't figure it was too big of a deal.

I realize that wasn't the path you were asking for - but thought I would chime in.

Good luck

Yup, that's exactly it. I'm failing the Lambda reading.

May well be worth trying something. I don't suppose you know how much he added?

Annoyingly, the first thing to look for is a leak for the lambda and I can't find one. The 2ZZ header and Cat were brand new and still failed.

By "failing the lambda reading" do you mean that you are not running closed-loop at light to moderate loads?

He added  about a 32 OZ to 5 gallons.

His car was older FI.  so you may want to google to check ratios

Good luck

Instead of iso alcohol.... Maybe mix in a little E85 or whatever ethanol fuel you may have available there? I've been blending up to 10% E85 into my already E10 fuel in a couple of vehicles, including my MR2... Which is catless. No legitimate sniff test but the exhaust does smell "cleaner" when using the blend...
